Hyderabad: Irritation of the nose and throat is a common complaint this season as winter allergies take their toll on children, office workers and housewives.

The major problems are dry nose and throat with severe irritation during the mornings or when exposed to too much smoke.

While one section of people suffer from symptoms of dryness, others have runny noses and sneezing in the mornings.

Dr Manish Kumar, ENT consultant at the ENT Hospital, Koti said, “These allergies are very common in winters among everyone, from children to senior citizens.

The reason being that the amount of dust particles in the air increases. Those who have bad attacks are advised not to go out during peak traffic hours as that is the only solution to the problem.”

While that is not possible for many, masks or covering the nose with a shawl are others options.

ENT specialist Dr C. Shekar Singh said, “Wearing masks or covering oneself has proved effective for patients who have no option but to go out during the peak hours.

We also give them tablets and nasal sprays to take care of the attacks during this season. The side effects are not much and helps to control the problem effectively.”
