Adelaide: Every Test match promises a record or two, this one is no different. Every ball bowled and run scored has been entering into the cricket books for all right and wrong reasons.

1) Steve Smith scored his career-best innings in Tests, outclassing his previous record of 138 not out against England in 2013.

2) The Australian’s all five Test centuries have come under Michael Clarke’s captaincy. He did not perform to his potential, leave alone a hundred, in four Tests under Ricky Ponting.

3) Varun Aaron has recorded the worst ever economy rate (5.91) by an Indian bowler with the following figures (23-1-136-2). He outdid Kapil Dev who registered 38.4-3-220-7 against Pakistan at Faisalabad in 1983. Even Mohammad Shami recorded an economy rate of 5.00. For the first time, two opening bowlers from India have conceded so much in the same innings bowling 20 overs or more.

4) Clarke became the second Australian batsman after Ponting (2,555) to score 2,000 runs against India in Tests. He is also one of the players to have posted more hundreds than fifties.
