Stop selling smartphones in India: Delhi High Court orders Xiaomi
The injunction is regarding a case of patent infringement against the company
Media reports have been making rounds regarding Delhi High Court’s injunction against Xiaomi. According to the reports, the court order requires Xiaomi to stop selling, importing and advertising smartphones in India, due to a case of patent infringement against the company.
Reports suggest that Ericsson approached the High Court claiming that Xiaomi has infringed its patents. And the banning orders were released after Xiaomi failed to reply to Ericsson’s notice.
In an emailed response to Deccan Chronicle, Xiaomi’s India head Manu Jain said that:
“Regarding the court injunction: we haven't received an official notice from the Delhi High Court yet. However, our legal team is currently evaluating the situation based on the information we have.
India is a very important market for Xiaomi and we will respond promptly as needed and in full compliance with Indian laws. Moreover, we are open to working with Ericsson to resolve this matter amicably”
Xiaomi, which entered the Indian smartphone market in July 2014, has been doing really well in the country, making India its second largest consumer after China. This incident is likely to have a major impact on Xiaomi’s overall sales and revenue.
