Thiruvananthapuram: Jisna Mathew went on reaping gold yet again on the third day of the 58th Kerala State Schools Athletics Championship, once again proving that she’s on her way to the national and international tracks.

Jisna, a ward of P T Usha won 3 golds and a silver at the meet. She also emerged to be the individual champion in her category. While the Junior Girls 100m, 200m and 400m saw Jisna emerge with 3 easy golds, the 4X100m relay gave her a silver.

Jisna not only bagged a gold, but broke international athlete Tintu Luka’s meet record of 56.41 seconds from 2005 with a 56.04 in Junior Girls 400m. “I am so happy that I broke Tintu chechi’s record. I’m also happy to have become the individual champion”, beams Jisna.

Jisna, a student of AMHS, Poovambayi, wished to better her current meet record of 25.22 in 200m race but missed it very narrowly.

“Usha chechi had asked me to get all the 3 golds and also to better my record in the 200m. I am a bit disappointed that I could not better the record but I’m happy with my overall performance.” says a visibly thrilled Jisna.

Jisna has been training at the Usha School for the past 4 years and has been winning medals at the state meet. “Jisna is definitely a very promising athlete and I was sure that she would perform well this time.

Till now I’ve been giving her just a general training but now it’s time to start conditioning her specifically for 400m and 800m races”, says P T Usha.

Usha is also happy for her other wards who have together bagged 6 golds, 5 silvers and 4 bronzes for her school.

“We have a lot of promising talent here at the school. Right now they may not be at their best, but I can guarantee you that these children will make it big in the next 2 years”, adds Usha.
