Chennai: The Presidency College in the city will reopen on December 15 after the college was closed indefinitely last week following protests by students inside the campus. Prof Paramananda Perumal, principal of the college, said on Friday they had decided to reopen the college from December 15 based on the assurance given by the students that they would not protest inside the campus.

The state government, for its part, has ordered the college authorities to reopen the institution from December 15.“We have made all arrangements to complete the syllabus on time so that students don’t get affected by the closure of the college,” Prof Perumal said.

The institution was closed indefinitely on December 4 after a group of students protested inside the campus asking the college authorities to revoke the dismissal of 15 students arrested after they attacked two students from the college.

The protestors also demanded that the college authorities ask the police let these students out of the prison, after which the college decided to close down indefinitely to avoid any violence on the campus.
