Guru Sai Dutt, Prannoy in Tata Open final
Both the finalist have won their semi final match with straight games victory
Mumbai: Top seed H.S. Prannoy and fourth seed R.M.V. Guru Sai Dutt entered the men’s singles final of the Tata Open India International Challenge badminton tournament with straight-game semi-final victories here on Saturday.Prannoy subdued sixth seed Ajay Jayaram 21-13, 23-21 in 36 minutes after staving off a fightback from the latter, who had packed off third seed B. Sai Praneeth in the quarterfinals.
Later Guru overwhelmed unseeded Akshit Mahajan, conqueror of second seed Sourabh Varma in the quarters, 21-11, 21-11 in the other semifinal.In women’s singles, unseeded G. Ruthvika Shivani toppled third seed Saili Rane in straight games to enter the final.The 17-year-old Ruthvika, runner-up at the most recent junior nationals, disposed off her rival 21-19, 21-18 in 35 minutes.
Shivani will meet reigning National Games champion and fourth seed Arundhati Pantawane in Sunday’s final.Arundhati got the better of top seed P.C. Thulasi 21-9, 21-15 in the other semifinal.The pair of J. Meghana and K. Maneesha, also from Hyderabad, will meet Aparna Balan and Prajakta Sawant in the women’s doubles final. Meghana and Maneesha defeated the second-seeded pair of Dhanya Nair and Mohita Sachdev in straight games 21-15, 21-15.
