Google Plus launches 'customised' gender options facility
Google+ profile would now feature four entries
Washington: Google Plus has introduced a new category named 'custom' that would enable users to define their gender more freely rather than adjusting to the already existing options of 'Male', 'Female', and 'Other' category.
Rachel Bennett, Google software engineer, said that the Google plus profile would now feature four entries, 'Male,' 'Female,' 'Decline to state,' and 'Custom'.
Bennett further said that choosing the option of 'Custom' would generate a freeform text field and a pronoun field, adding that it also provides users with an option to limit who could see one's gender, The Verge reported.
Earlier this year, Facebook introduced custom gender options that featured more than 70 different gender definitions, which includes terms like 'Gender Fluid' and 'Non-Binary'.
