KOZHIKODE: Chief Minister Oomman Chandy has assured the mother of Jayachandran Mokeri that he would take up the issue of his detention in Maldives jail with the Maldives consulate in Thiruvananthapuram.

“I will summon the Mali consul on Monday itself,” he  told  Jayachandran’s mother Janaki Amma, his children Abijith, Karthika and brothers Jayarajan and Shashidaran, who called on the Chief Minister  at the guest house here on Saturday morning.

Mr Chandy said that he was aware of the issue. They also met Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, who said that he had already apprised the Union ministry of external affairs about  the matter and requested it to take follow-up steps.

Jayachandran’s wife Jyothi is in New Delhi seeking an appointment with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

The friends of Jayachandran have organized a gathering at Kerala House in New Delhi at 4 p.m. on December 14.

Poet K. Sachidanandan and  Prof Omcheri among others will take part. On the same day, an action council will be formed at his native place, Mokeri.

Those who have been striving for Jayachandran’s release said that the Indian High Commission in Maldives was doing nothing on the matter.
