Saradha chit fund scam set to engulf TMC chief Mamata Banerjee
TMC will protest in Parliament against BJP’s “politics of vendetta” - Senior TMC leader
New Delhi: The stink of the Saradha chit fund scam, which has reached Trinamul Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s doorstep, could now enter the party’s inner chambers.
Regardless of the apparent bravado and the fiery speeches of Ms Banerjee, there’s a lurking fear among the top party leaders that after “Madan it could be Mukul”.
The former railway minister and Ms Banerjee’s closest aide, Mr Roy has been under the CBI scanner for his alleged nexus with the Saradha scam prime accused Sudipta Sen. If Mr Roy gets dragged into the mess, alarm bells could start ringing for the CM.
Meanwhile, with the scam taking down TMC heavyweights, a crack seemed to be surfacing over the issue. Some feel that Ms Banerjee has “no other option but to openly support her minister, because, if spurned by the party, an upset Madan Mitra could spell a lot of trouble for other leaders and the TMC,” a senior party functionary said. However, on Monday, TMC MPs will protest in Parliament against the BJP’s “politics of vendetta”.
