Seniors want action against sp Rahul R Nair
The meeting decided to bring Mr Nair’s action to the notice of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister
Thiruvananthapuram: The IPS officers have demanded action against tainted SP Rahul R. Nair for using the media to malign his higher officials in violation of the code of conduct of the department.
The former Pathanamthitta SP was first transferred and later suspended for allegedly taking Rs 17 lakh as bribe from some quarry owners.
However, a few days later, a person named Chandrasekharan hailing from the same district filed a complaint against Thiruvananthapuram Range IG Manoj Abraham with the Thrissur Vigilance court for amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
On Thursday, a closed-door meeting of IPS officers chaired by DGP K.S. Balasubramanian to discuss the matter observed that Chandrasekharan had filed the complaint at the behest of the suspended officer.
Mr Rahul was accused of prematurely leaking to the media the statement that he gave to the Vigilance.
He had claimed before the Vigilance that ADGP R. Sreelekha and IG Manoj Abraham had pressurised him to favour some quarry owners.
“It is against service rules to take the names of senior officials as a defensive action for the corruption charges against him.
What happens to the discipline and morale of the forces if every circle inspector tries to drag along his SP when he is caught for corruption,” said an official.
The meeting decided to bring Mr Nair’s action to the notice of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister.
Mr Balasubramanian said that he was yet to decide whether to summon the official. The Crime Branch ADGP has been directed to probe a counter complaint given by Ms Sreelekha and Mr Manoj Abraham against Mr Rahul.
Senior IPS officers A. Hemachandran, Arun Kumar Sinha, Loknath Behera, S. Aananthakrishnan, Manoj Abraham and Sreelekha were present at the meeting.
