Pakistan head coach Shahnaz Sheikh apologises for team's behaviour

Bhubaneshwar: Pakistan head coach Shahnaz Sheikh apologised for his team’s rude gestures, behaviour after beating India 3-4 in the semifinal of the Champions Trophy here on Saturday.

“The incident that occurred after the match between India and Pakistan on December 13 contained behaviour that is considered unacceptable to Pakistan Hockey Federation and the entire hockey community.

As a result, I have spoken to my team and explained to them that they are guests in India and as hosts they have been very hospitable to the team. Our opinion is that the behaviour of a few of our players should not have occurred,” he said in a release.

“In addition, I have written to the Tournament Director Mr Wiert Doyer and sincerely apologised for the behaviour of a few players in my team following this match,” he added.

Sheikh, reportedly, spoke to the President and Secretary General of Pakistan Hockey Federation too and both agreed that the behaviour was unacceptable and they would be express regret to Hockey India and the fans in general.
