Hyderabad: The abnormal delay on the part of the Central government in granting industrial incentives as well as special status to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is due to the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet given the green signal to the ministries to initiate the proposal.

Sources in New Delhi told Deccan Chronicle that without a nod from the Prime Minister’s Office, the ministries would not initiate the proposals, which need to be approved by the Union Cabinet.

Apparently Mr Modi himself is sceptical about the implementation of the various assurances provided at the time of the passage of the AP Reorganisation Bill in Parliament as well as some of the provisions of the Act. “It is difficult to convince the PM. It seems he has made up his mind not to grant special status and industrial incentives to the two states as these are bound to generate a lot of opposition from other states,” a source said.
