Action against those who dirty Himayatsagar, Osmansagar lake
Hyderabad: A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the Telangana State Pollution Control Board to act in accordance with the law against individuals, institutions and industries polluting Osmansagar and Himayathsagar lakes in the city within six months.
The bench was closing a petition moved in 2006 by M/s Radhika Silk Mills (Pvt) Limited seeking a direction to the Board to permit them to operate their unit situated in the Pedashapur village of Shamshabad Mandal in Ranga Reddy district.
In 2006 the court had directed the Board to clarify whether any polluting industry was being allowed to operate in the catchment and upstream areas of Osmansagar and Himayathsagar lakes and directed the registry to treat the plea as a PIL.
When this petition come up for hearing on Monday, Justice Sengupta maintained that it was the responsibility of the Board to identify industries that are causing pollution, issue legal notices to them and then take appropriate action.
Telangana, Andhra Pradesh told to run shelters
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday directed the AP and Telangana State governments to spell out their stand on a petition seeking to declare their action in not implementing Section 21 of the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act, 1956, as illegal.
A non-governmental organisation of the city moved the petition stating that Section 21 of the Act mandates setting up adequately equipped protective homes for victims of sex trafficking for the purpose of rescue, rehabilitation and repatriation.
The court was urged to direct both the state governments to immediately take steps to set up state-run rescue shelters and protective homes for victims of sex-trafficking.
The bench directed them to file their counter affidavits in three weeks.
Plea against MYhome shut
The Hyderabad High Court on Monday closed a PIL by P. Jithender Reddy, an advocate, seeking to direct the Telangana government to take steps to resume the land allocated to MyHome Constructions Pvt Ltd.
He submitted that the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation in 2006 allocated five acres to MyHome to establish IT and IT enabled services at Madhapur in Cyberabad on August 29, 2012. The HC asked authorities to take action on the complaint of the petitioner if it was tenable under law.
