AOC Road Plan: 13 lakh to be hit by new Army curbs
Alternative routes in no position to take traffic surge from restricted cantonment areas
Hyderabad: Once the second phase of AOC restrictions comes into force, the four alternative routes will not be of much help to the 13 lakh residents who will be directly affected.
Even if the GHMC constructs a bridge at Trimulgherry and Tukaram Gate, it will only transport traffic. There is no scope of road widening owing to the series of commercial establishments at Trimulgherry and railway track and houses at the Tukaram Gate.
If the Lallaguda gate is made the alternative route, it will only add to the existing traffic on the Mettuguda road, which is already cramped due to ongoing Metro work. The fourth route, the Moula Ali-Tarnaka route, will be a roundabout for residents in Sainikpuri, Defence Colony, Yapral and Neredmet.
V. Suresh Kumar, president of Anandbagh RWA, said, “The Tukaram Gate route is extremely narrow and cannot even take the present traffic. The GHMC would have to knock down several commercial establishments for road widening. Above all, the Tukaram Gate route will only transport traffic from Malkajgiri, Safilguda to the narrow East Marredpally road leading to Secunderabad crossroads.”
The cramped Trimulgherry route faces traffic jams right from the Karkhana police station to the crossroads and extend to Lal Bazaar and R.K. Puram, every day. Trimulgherry is densely occupied by commercial outlets and there is no scope for road widening. Even a bridge from Trimulgherry will only carry traffic to R.K. Puram, this will as well affect the Army School at R.K. Puram.
The other route is the Lallaguda Gate to Mettuguda. Currently, the Mettuguda road has been closed owing to Metro pillar constructions. The Moula Ali to Lallapet to Tarnaka route will only serve residents of A.S. Rao Nagar, Radhika.
