Lata Mangeshkar and A R Rahman provide melodious relief to wounded souls in Peshawar
Their duet Lukka Chupi was played on radio channels across Peshawar

Mumbai: As Pakistan’s heart bled after the inhuman terror strike on children in Peshawar it was India’s two principal ambassadors of harmony and melody Lata Mangeshkar and A R Rahmam who soothened the lacerated souls of Pakistani people with their heart-rending duet Lukka Chupi from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s 'Rang De Basanti'.
The song, written with fabulous emotion by Prasoon Joshi creates a moving picture of a mother looking for her lost child. While the indomitable Lata Mangeshkar sings for the mother, Rahman gives voice to the dead son. Actor-director Imran Zahid who was in Lahore when the attacks in Peshawar happened says, “After the Peshawar attack the radio channels were playing Lataji’s Lukka chupi bahut hui saamne aaja na from Rang De Basanti .Even in that moment of emotional havoc the Pakistanis could connect with Bollywood.” Imran says the scenario in Pakistan was heartbreaking after the Peshawar attacks. “We were in-between the rehearsal of our Indo-Pak play Milne Do in Lahore when the news of the Peshawar attack came.Everyone was shocked. It was sad and painful to see people of all age groups come out on the streets of Lahore to protest through a candle-March in a peaceful way. Just like we used to see silent protesters at India Gate.”
Imran says Lahore was completely shut down on Tuesday to pay homage to the slain children.
