Navjot Singh Sidhu’s convoy attacked in Jammu
BJP has alleged that the Congress was behind the incident
Jammu: Former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu’s cavalcade was attacked with bricks and stones by unidentified assailants in Jammu on Thursday. Mr Sidhu was campaigning for the Assembly polls at Bhor camp on the outskirts of the city.
BJP has alleged that the Congress was behind the incident.
Police and witnesses said that Mr Sidhu’s car and other vehicles were targeted as they drove in the area during campaign trail to seek votes for BJP candidate Kavinder Gupta.
Though Mr Sidhu escaped unhurt, his driver Parveen Singh was injured in the attack and was admitted to a hospital, police said. The vehicle was also badly damaged.
Police suspects that the attack could be a result of sections of people being annoyed with Mr Sidhu over his recent remark about their religious scripture. Reports said that the police have detained two persons in this case.
Confirming the incident, BJP spokesperson and ‘war room’ in-charge Arun Gupta said that it was a murderous assault on Mr Sidhu in which he narrowly escaped.
He blamed the incident on the Congress saying, “It is Congress’s and its MLA’s frustration due to the growing popularity of BJP not only in this constituency, but elsewhere in the state too.”
