KR Meera wins academy award

The winners of comprehensive contribution carry a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and citation

Kochi: KR Meera was selected as the best fiction writer by the Kerala Sahitya Academy for the year 2013.

Thomas Joseph won award for best short story writer and KR Tony for poetry. Sahitya Academy President Perumpadavam Sreedharan told reporters in Kochi on Friday that Meera was selected for novel Aarachar, while Joseph’s short story ‘Marichavar Cinema Kanukayanu’ won the award.

The Academy has also selected Yusufali Kechery and NS Madhavan as distinguished fellows for the year. PR Nathan, Dr. SK Vasanthan, KP Sasidharan, MD Ratnamma and D Shreeman Namboodiri were selected for comprehensive contribution.

Distinguished fellowship carries a cash award of Rs 50,000, two sovereigns of gold and citations. The winners of comprehensive contribution carry a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and citation.

Other award winners included Rafeeq Mangalassery (Drama), Sunil P Ilayadam (Literary criticism) Bhagyalakshmi (Autobiography) P Surendran (Travelogue) Sippy Pallippuram (Children’s Literature) Dr. P Sethumadhavan (Humour) Moosakutty (Translation).
