K Chandrasekhar Rao for skyways to ease Hyderabad traffic
Rao said skyways should be constructed on highly congested roads
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday said there were 35 to 40 junctions in the city where people were facing severe traffic problems and the only solution was to set up elevated skyways, corridors and multi-level grade separators at these junctions.
Mr Rao held a review meeting at the Secretariat to discuss the city’s traffic problems with senior officials. He proposed the construction of skyways on major roads including Hari Hara Kala Bhavan-Uppal; Masab Tank-Hari Hara Kala Bhavan; Nagarjuna Circle-Madhapur; Charminar-BHEL and Tarnaka-ECIL crossroads. It was decided that multi-level grade separators on many junctions, including LB Nagar, Uppal, Banjara Hills Park, Khairatabad, Secretariat, Ambedkar Centre, Necklace Road crossroad, Sangeet Theatre, Paradise, Koti Boy’s Hostel, Trimulgherry junction, RTC crossroads, Abids and Chaderghat, would be constructed.
Mr Rao said skyways should be constructed on highly congested roads while major junctions should have multi-level grade separators.
He suggested constructing elevated corridors for traffic entering the city from different districts. The officials presented a list of junctions and Mr Rao directed them to prepare the designs for the proposed skyways, elevated corridors and multi-level grade separators in coordination with experts.
