KOCHI: The country is on the path of stable growth after the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed power, BJP president Amit Shah said on Saturday.

“The days of policy paralysis, the hallmark of the UPA regime, are over and the country has achieved 5.5 per cent GDP growth in the first six months of the current financial year as against 4.9 per cent in the same period last year under the UPA regime,”    he said.

Mr Shah reeled off  a series of data, including fall in inflation, wholesale price index and petroleum products to highlight the achievements of the Modi regime in the past six months.

Mr Shah also called for a political consensus on the issue of bringing  legislation banning forcible conversion in the country.

“BJP is the only party calling for a ban on forcible conversion. Let the so- called secular parties  support such a demand,”  he said in reply to a question on conversion attempts by Hindutva outfits.

On BJP endorsing the ‘Ghar Vapasi’ project launched by some Hindutva outfits, he said the matter was under the consideration of court and it was for the court to take a decision whether the project amounted to forcible conversion or not.

On the party’s prospects in Kerala, he  said the BJP had   good potential to emerge as the political alternative in the state.

Kerala had been  facing a governance deficit by the Congress and Left Front for the past three decades. Both Congress and the Left were facing downtrend at the national level and its impact would be felt in Kerala too, he said.
