Centre mulls ordinance on insurance after Rajya Sabha washout
Centre will explore other options to table Insurance Bill said Arun Jaitley
New Delhi: With no resolution in sight for the logjam in Rajya Sabha, the BJP-led NDA government at the centre is understood to have reconciled to the idea of promulgating an ordinance to increase FDI in insurance sector to 49 per cent and extend the tenure of an already issued executive order on coal sector after the Winter Session ends on Tuesday. Though there are two more sittings, signals from the Opposition, which has paralysed the House proceedings since last Monday demanding PM Mr Modi’s reply to a debate on the conversion issue, indicate that the Rajya Sabha is unlikely to transact any major businesses on Monday and Tuesday. Union finance minister Arun Jaitley had on Saturday indicated that the Centre will explore other options to table Insurance Bill and that they would not allow a parliamentary disturbance to obstruct or delay a reform of this kind.
