Delhi Government has established 221 night shelters for the homeless
New Delhi: In light of the onset of winter, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has appealed to the citizens of the national capital to donate warm clothing and bedding material for the poor, to be given at the night shelters set up in the city.
"Delhi is a city, which has opened its heart to people in emergencies over centuries. Whenever there has been a crisis, people of Delhi have risen to the occasion and helped their brethren. A very good demonstration of this spirit has been how our brothers and sisters have responded in the last two days to the needs of the poor in the Night Shelters, especially in the wake of prevailing winter," Jung said in a statement.
The Lt. Governor also lauded the citizens of the national capital for their humanitarian and philanthropist spirit and has urged them to motivate homeless to shift to the nearest night shelter or inform the control room of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB).
The Delhi Government has established 221 night shelters for the homeless with basic facilities such as clean drinking water, toilets, blankets, bedding and so on. These nights shelter’s, which are open 24 hours a day, are free of charge.
