Vijayawada: A 70 year old woman waiting in queue for her pension at Chittinagar post office of Vijayawada died following a commotion in the  queue.

Padala Kamtamma came to the pension issuing centre at around 3.30 am on Monday along with hundreds of other pensioners.

Half an hour later, Kamtamma fell down following a commotion in the queue. Complaining of chest pain, she walked home and told her son Padala Raju about the pain.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital and then to the Government General Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

“Disruption occurred in the queue and the old woman, who is said to be a heart patient, fell down.  A case has been registered.” said West Zone ACP S. Raghava Rao.

The death of the Kamtamma triggered protests in the area. Irate locals, other pensioners staged a rasta roko on the road blocking traffic for more than an hour.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who condoled the death of woman, has ordered a probe into the incident.
