New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants at least some bureaucrats to work on Christmas Day to observe “Good Governance Day,” and for this the PMO has sent out a wishlist to ministries and departments. This means while children may have been spared compulsory attendance at schools on  December 25, bureaucrats are not so lucky. A detailed plan and directives from the government is set to follow soon, with details of activities for that day. Besides being Christmas Day, December 25 is also the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who will turn 90 this year, and the Prime Minister had said it would be observed as “Good Governance Day.”

Sources said the PMO note suggests ministers and MPs should visit “sensitive districts and organise events on good governance and sanitation on December 25,” as well as other events.

It also suggested holding seminars with eminent speakers, e-governance camps and digital literacy promotion efforts on that day.
