Indefinite curfew in four police stations of Sonitpur district in Assam

Curfew has been clamped in Dhekiajuli, Thelamara, Rangapara and Biswanath Chariali

Guwahati: Indefinite curfew was clamped tonight in four police station areas of Sonitpur district in Assam after suspected Bodo militants killed 37 people there.

"Indefinite curfew has been clamped in the areas in the jurisdiction of Dhekiajuli, Thelamara, Rangapara and Biswanath Chariali police stations," Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur district, Lalit Gogoi told PTI.

A spokesperson of Assam Police said 30 people were gunned down in Sonitpur district. "While 24 were gunned down in Biswanath Chariali, six were killed in Dhekiajuli," he said.

A total of 37 people, including four women, were killed and 10 others injured in a series of attacks by NDFB (Songbijit) militants at four places in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar districts of Assam this evening.
