Selfies, the new autographs for fans
Fans don’t run behind celebs for their autographs anymore, now it’s the selfie
Remember how we used to cherish autographs from celebrities? Or the iconic scene in Slumdog Millionaire where the little boy gets an autograph from Amitabh Bachchan? Do you think we still share the same sentiments about meeting celebrities? Of course not! We are in the age of celeb selfies where taking a selfie with a celebrity has become the norm. The trend has caught on and celebrities seem to lap it up with equal gusto.
From Kareena Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra and Sonam Kapoor, the selfie bandwagon has spared none. No we are not talking about the girl’s pouting in their vanity vans, but the ones where they do not mind posing with an ardent fan enthusiastically. When it comes to autographs, actress Ragini Dwivedi who has had her share of hits in all the South Indian languages, affirms that autographs are still doing the rounds, but just that selfies are more convenient. “Everyone owns a smart phone, so it is much easier than carrying a pen and paper everywhere. It is also a decent way to walk up to someone and ask for a selfie, than clicking a picture haphazardly.” However, she reveals that she is bad at taking selfies herself and always insists that the other person clicks the photo. Though we have bid adieu to the charm of autographs, we sure get our share of enjoying a moment in the same frame as our favourite idol.
