Hyderabad: Shalini P., a former nurse of the Niloufer Hospital, had sold her newborn girl to her relative, identified as Bhavani, a resident of Kothalanka in Kakinada, for Rs 15,000 in October 2014. Shalini, an unwed mother, had entered into an agreement with Bhavani before the child was born.

At Gandhi Hospital, where Shalini delivered the baby, she had introduced Bhavani as her relative. Bhavani even stayed to attend on her. After discharge, Shalini went back to work and Bhavani took the child with her to her village.

In December, Shalini called Bhavani and demanded an additional Rs 10,000. When Bhavani refused to pay, she went to the Chilkalguda police and lodged a complaint of missing child. A police team picked  up Bhavani and the baby.

When it was revealed that Bhavani had bought the child from Shalini, and she in turn had tried to blackmail Bhavani, cases were booked against both. The  infant has been sent to Shishu Vihar in Ameerpet.
