Acid attack a ‘heinous crime’ now

The laws will be amended for time-bound trial of the accused and disposal of appeal

New delhi: To ensure speedy justice to victims of acid attacks, home minister Rajnath Singh has cleared a move to categorise such cases as heinous crimes.

The laws will be amended for time-bound trial of the accused and disposal of appeal. Moreover, acid attack victims will also be included in the physically disabled category of so that they can avail all benefits the government extends to PH category people.

The MHA is in consultation with the ministry of health and family welfare, ministry of finance and insurance companies to ensure that acid attack victims are treated on a “cashless basis’’.

The Centre will bear the cost of treatment under Central victim compensation fund which is proposed to be set up.
