Girl set on fire for opposing harassment succumbs to injuries in Modi’s constituency

Varanasi: A 19-year-old girl, who was set on fire allegedly by three youths after she opposed to their harassment in Lallapura area, succumbed to her injuries in the wee hours on Friday at a government hospital here, police said.

The girl's mother had alleged that the three youths entered their house on December 18 and set her daughter on fire by pouring kerosene when she opposed the trio's teasing and harassment, they said.

The three used to stalk the girl, a class XII student, on her way to school, police quoted the mother as saying. She succumbed to her injuries in the wee hours while being treated at the government hospital here, they said.

An FIR was registered against the trio under sections 354 and 326 of the IPC at Sigra police station on the same day. The three accused were arrested by police and were sent to jail five days ago.
