Govt offices remain shut in Karnataka
The Centre should not play with the sentiments of the people
Even as the BJP-led NDA Government celebrated ‘Good governance’ day in Delhi to coincide with the 90th birthday of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, all the government offices of the Karnataka were shut on the occasion of Christmas.
Strongly defending the Government's decision for not toeing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call, Karnataka Information Minister R. Roshan Baig slammed the Centre for selecting a national holiday to observe the good governance day just to hurt the sentiments of a community.
“Why should we celebrate it. We strongly believe in observing good governance day everyday.
The Centre should not play with the sentiments of the people just because they got an absolute majority. They could have as well as observed it any other day,” he added.
Meanwhile, a top bureaucrat told Deccan Chronicle that “First of all, there is no directive from the Union Government to observe ‘good governance’ day in the State.
Even if we had received, we would have considered whether or not to observe it. I believe in good governance every day and not any one day in year. How is it possible to observe it that too on the Christmas Day which happens to a national holiday.”
