New norm to rank universities
Centre aims for more varsities in world ranking
New Delhi: With Indian educational institutions failing to make a mark in international rankings, the Union government is expected to soon unveil national parameters for ranking of educational institutes.
Sources stated that the Union human resource development ministry. headed by Smriti Irani, is in the final stages of formulating these parameters that will judge all educational institutes in the country.
The parameters will aim to classify all higher educational technical institutes, universities and colleges based on the infrastructure, facilities, faculty and other requirements earmarked.
Data including research, placements, patent applications, consultancy work and other data that are up to the standards of international rankings agencies are also being collected for the same.
The need for national parameters for ranking of educational institutes was felt as it was understood that currently the country did not have a system through which students, parents, teachers and laymen could easily distinguish the difference between two different educational institutes.
To get a ranking under the national parameters an institution would need to submit all its details to the government which would be put on a dedicated website being created for the purpose.
