Consumer care centres to help people to redress grievances

The government is planning to set up a consumer care centres known as "Grahak Suvidha Kendra."

New Delhi: In a bid to further boost the infrastructure to redress consumer complaints and to help them avail services, the government will soon set up consumer care centres (Grahak Suvidha Kendras) in more than a dozen cities in the country.

“The department of consumer affairs has recently invited applications from registered and eligible voluntary consumer organisations for setting up and running consumer care centres. The centres will be set up at New Delhi, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Raipur and Bhopal,” the government said in a statement.


The objective of these centres will be to provide counselling to consumers for redressal of their grievances. They will also assist consumers in registering complaints in the appropriate consumer fora.

“The centres will be authorised to take up complaints with private companies/manufacturers/service providers on behalf of the government,” the department of consumer affairs said.
Also, the government is trying to bring consum-er grievances under one common IT platform wi-th a single toll-free number across the country.
