Hyderabad: The proposal of the Yadagirigutta temple administration to perform marriages in the temple only if a couple submits marriage registration certificate issued by a sub-registrar has raised a storm.
Legal experts say that it is not “legally valid” since temples have no power or authority to deny performing marriages of majors. They add that temple officials can seek birth certificates of couples to ascertain whether they have attained majority.
Marriages in Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple are set to resume after a year, but officials plan to insist on certificates.
