Islamabad: A Pakistani court on Friday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz. The decision comes against the backdrop of ongoing protests organised by civil society members.

The civil society members registered a case against Aziz and gave the police Friday’s deadline to open an investigation against the cleric.

Lawyer-turned-activist Jibran Nasir, who spearheaded the protest, remained undeterred, despite receiving a threatening call from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Jamatul Ahrar faction’s spokesman, Ehsanullah Ehsan.
