Karimnagar: A 20-year-old youth allegedly raped a six-year-old girl after inviting her to his residence offering her food when her parents were away.

The incident happened in Gundaram village in Yellareddypet mandal on Sunday. The condition of the girl is stated to be critical.

Yellareddypet police said the accused was identified as Mudavath Vikram, an jobless youth of the village and neighbour of the girl. The girl is a Class I student at a government school and her parents are farmers.

Police said Vikram raped the girl after offering some food when her parents went for work. The child became unconscious after the rape. The parents were shocked to see the girl and took her to the Sircilla Area Hospital as her condition was serious, said ASI M. Ravinder.

Based on a complaint from the parents of the girl, police registered a case against the youth under Section 376 (rape). A manhunt was launched to nab Vikram who is absconding.
