Dr G Parameshwar: Add Cong members or else...
KPCC president perturbed by reports that local party leaders not taking membership campaign seriously
Bengaluru: Taking serious note of a section of ministers and Congress party senior leaders not taking active part in the party’s membership drive programme, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dr G. Parameshwar issued a subtle warning to such leaders on Sunday stating that the party will not hesitate to initiate disciplinary action against those absenting themselves from party programmes.
Speaking at the Congress party’s 130th Foundation Day celebrations at the KPCC office here, Dr Parameshwar said, “The party has launched a membership drive almost three months ago and I have been receiving reports from local leaders that many leaders have not shown any interest so far. I request all of them to take the ongoing membership drive seriously. If any one fails to achieve his target he/she would be liable for disciplinary action.”
He also maintained that the party would soon form four or five special teams exclusively to monitor the membership drive. “I will personally monitor these teams while travelling along with them across the state. At this time, I also request the respective district in-charge ministers to head the membership drives in their respective districts in order to attract many members in the days to come,” he explained.
While launching a veiled attack on the BJP’s membership drive, the KPCC president quipped that the Congress party need not try out anything like the BJP’s missed call campaign to boost its membership drive as it would not yield much result.“The Congress party will stick to its basic rules to carry out its membership drive,” he said.
