Mumbai: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket following the drawn match against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday.

Though he began his career with a few hits and misses, the 33-year-old cricketer went on to create several records and has proven to be one of the most successful cricketers.

Here is a look at some of his achievements over the past decade:

1. In 2006, Dhoni scored his maiden century in the second Test at Faisalabad against Pakistan. Playing an aggressive innings, Dhoni brought up his maiden in just 93 balls. He scored his fifty in just 34 deliveries.

2. Dhoni has led India to most wins across all three formats in cricket – Tests, ODIs and also Twenty20. As a captain, Dhoni has the highest win percentage in Tests and ODIs.

3. Dhoni scored two centuries in Sri Lanka's tour of India in 2009, a series of three matches in which he led India to a 2–0 victory.

4. Dhoni has lead India in more than 50 Tests, 59 to be precise.

5. He also holds the record for most dismissals as a wicketkeeper in Tests (285) and T20Is.

6. Dhoni is also the only wicketkeeper to have scored a double century in Tests. Interestingly, he also holds the record for highest individual score by an Indian captain.

7. The Indian skipper also holds the record for fastest century by an Indian wicketkeeper in Tests.

8. During his final Test series in Australia, Dhoni also became the first Indian wicketkeeper to effect nine dismissals in a Test match in Melbourne.

9. In his last Test, Dhoni went past Kumar Sangakkara in the record for stumpings with 134 (in all three formats).

10. In March 2013, Dhoni officially became the most successful Indian Test captain, eclipsing Sourav Ganguly’s record of 21 victories from 49 Tests.

Needless to say that he is the man who won us the 2013 World Cup, a moment cricket-crazy India would never forget!
