Hyderabad: It seems that the AP government has given up hope on getting a special category status for the the state. The Centre prefers to give funds instead of granting a special category status to the state.
Sources said that due to various political compulsions, the Centre is not in a position to give a special category status to Andhra Pradesh. AP finance minister Yanamala Rama Krishnudu said the Centre is not clearly saying anything on the special category status. Mr Yanamala added that the Centre is working out some financial package for the state.
The state government had been hoping to get a special category status and as well as more concessions. In the last 7 months, the Centre has not released any money that was assured in the State Reorganisation Act.
