HyderabadThe AP government is likely to hike power charges after Sankranthi. The Cabinet meet on Friday discussed the hike for consumers who consume more than 100 units a month. 
 
In the absence of the CM, Mr Naidu, the ministers discussed the hike. The CM left the cabinet meet to attend another meeting. Sources said the cabinet has decided to take a decision on the hike after Sankranthi.
 
Meanwhile, the cabinet has taken a decision to enhance the estimated cost of Jalayagnam projects by Rs 7,000 crore. There are 41 ongoing irrigation projects in the state under the Jalayagnam scheme.
 
This will benefit the contractors and the government has taken a decision to take action against contractors if anyone fails to complete projects in the stipulated time. The cabinet decided to celebrate Sankranthi as a state festival. The cabinet also decided to distribute freely a commodities pack worth Rs 241 to 1.30 crore families during Sankranthi.
 
The cabinet also approved the fibre grid project and decided to allocate Rs 10 crore to it as initial expenses. Under this project the fibre optical network will be provided up to the village level.
 
The government will provide 10-15 Mbps Internet to 12 million homes for Rs 150 a month. The cabinet has taken a decision to set up a Women Empowerment Corporation and to bring all women related departments under it. The cabinet has taken a decision to allocate land for four wind power projects in Ananthapur district. The cabinet discussed industrial policy but did not take a final decision.
