Telangana set on own Eamcet plans

Hyderabad: In a new twist to the Eamcet dispute, the Telangana government on Friday offered to conduct a common Eamcet for both TS and Andhra Pradesh thro-ugh Telangana State Council for Higher Education this year.

The controversy erupted after Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education   issued an Eamcet notification for both the states, claiming that it is the competent authority to hold the test.

AP HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao had said that the TSCHE doesn’t have legal authority to conduct Eamcet.

However, the Telan-gana government has rubbished the theory saying that even the RGUKT has TSCHE chairman, Prof. T. Papi Reddy, on its governing council and even the Supreme Court had not found any problems with it.

Telangana State education minister G. Jagadish Reddy said no changes were being promulgated to the existing system, including the introduction of a normalisation system for Eamcet ranks.

It is unlikely that a normalisation system will be introduced or the Intermediate weightage in Eamcet ranks be expelled.

This means that though separate Inter-mediate exams will be held in both states, common ranks would be given, weighing the respective states Inter-mediate.

TS officials, meanwhile, said that no communication had been received from AP officials on the Eamcet offer so far. Mr Reddy also met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Friday and informed him of the TS government’s decision.
