5 Telangana firemen suspended for consuming liquor on duty
Five firefighters from the emergency wing were caught on camera while boozing
Hyderabad: A day after this newspaper broke the news of firemen on-duty boozing and dancing at their office in Moulali on New Year’s eve, higher officials suspended five firemen following an inquiry.
The suspended officials were identified as leading firemen J. Amarnath Goud, A. Mallesh, firemen Om Namashivaya and S. Surjith Kumar, along with driver D. Veeraswamy.
“We conducted a preliminary inquiry after seeing the news. We verified the video clippings and identified the men. They are now placed under suspension with immediate effect,” said V. Papaiah, district fire official, East Zone.
The five firefighters from the emergency wing were caught on camera while boozing and shaking a leg at a time when accidents are common occurrence during New Year’s eve.

The officials seemed to have forgotten their duty after consuming alcohol. One of the firefighters, Mallesh, posted at the Secretariat had come to celebrate New Year with his friends in Moulali. They drank and danced in uniform inside the office, said sources.
Higher officials said that the behaviour of these five officials has tarnished the image of the department, and strict action is in the offing.
“Once the report is submitted by the investigation official, further action will be initiated,” said a higher official.
He added that anyone found misbehaving will be dealt with an iron hand.
