Hyderabad: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan made a last-ditch attempt on Saturday to resolve the ongoing Eamcet tussle between Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh by convening a joint meeting of education ministers of both states. A suggestion that both states will conduct Eamcet alternately each year was discussed and both ministers said they would discuss the proposal again with their respective Chief Ministers.

Telangana State Council of Higher Education decided against announcing the schedule for its Eamcet in view of education minister G Jagdish Reddy meeting with the Governor and his AP counterpart. AP HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that no decision was taken but hoped a decision in the interest of the students would be taken at the earliest. AP also withheld any decision of taking the legal route. The drama unfolded on Saturday with the Governor’s office rubbishing Mr Jagdish Reddy’s claims of the Governor being happy with the TS government’s stance of conducting Eamcet on its own for both states. The Governor’s office categorically stated that the Governor had not endorsed the stand of TS government. Meanwhile, with the TSCHE set to announce its own Eamcet schedule on Saturday evening, the AP government also decided to approach the High Court against the TS government decision. However, Mr Narasimhan called for a joint meeting.
