Hyderabad: The district collectorates of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, located in the heart of the city, could be moved to the outskirts, and the land sold to commercial developers.

This is being done to mobilise funds for the government’s schemes. Revenue officials have been asked to submit a report within a week. The Hyderabad collectorate is located in Nampally and the Ranga Reddy collectorate in Lakdikapul.

Chief secretary Rajiv Sharma said on Sunday that collectorates and government offices were being shifted for the convenience of public since the existing buildings are located in congested areas. The offices will come up in integrated government office complexes on the city outskirts. Mr Sharma said, “The government is planning to relocate the collectorates. A 20-acre site in Gachibowli is being considered for the purpose.”

He added that as per estimates the government could earn up to Rs 25,000 crore through sale of prime government properties.
