Lucknow: Samajwadi Party legislator Kaptan Singh Rajput has been awarded life sentence by a local court in a 13-year-old murder case.

The MLA, who represents the Charkhari assembly seat, had been held guilty along with his brother.

The MLA now faces disqualification if his sentence is not stayed by the High court. The MLA and his brother Laxman Singh had been convicted on Saturday by Special Judge (anti-dacoity) and the quantum of punishment was announced on Monday.

The prosecution claimed that one Kishan was attacked and killed by the MLA and his brother in April 2002.
