Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh transport and roads and building minister Sidda Raghava Rao said that the APSRTC will not collect additional charges from passengers, who travel in the Sankranti special buses.

Speaking to media on Monday at the Secretariat, the minister said that the government has directed RTC officials to not collect additional charges from people using the Sankranti special buses. He said that if private buses were found to be collecting additional charges, the government will take action against them.

The minister claimed that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate 100 new buses on January 26 in Vijayawada. He added that the government has changed name of ‘Palle Velugu’ buses to ‘Telugu Velugu’ buses.

RTC charging 50% extra
Notwithstanding the minister’s promise of no extra fare, the RTC authorities have decided to collect 50 per cent extra from the passengers during Sankranti festival season.

As all the tickets of the regular services were booked one month ago, the authorities are now planning to run special services to Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Guntur by collecting  extra charges.

Executive director of RTC, Vizianagarm Zone, A. Ramakrishna said ‘So far we didn’t receive any such order. We are charging 50 per cent extra and are getting a good response.”
