Hyderabad: Once in our lives, we have all encountered the quintessential neighbourhood aunty, who is for ever ready to discourage us, unless our career choice is engineering, medicine or an MBA. Those waiting to vent their ire against such persons may have found an outlet.

Inspired by Bengaluru-based entrepreneur Varun Agarwal’s popular book How I Braved Anu Aunty and Co-founded a Million Dollar Company; Anu Aunty — The Engineering Anthem has over five lakh views on YouTube.

The song is a parody of rapper Iggy Azalea’s hit song Fancy, which is spearheaded by Anu Aunty, who never fails to make young lives miserable by saying, “Log kya kahenge”.

In the video Varun and comedian Sanjay Manaktala, who also wrote the parody, respond saying, “Anu Aunty... you’re Doordarshan, but I am more YouTube yo.”

The best lines belong to the hilarious Bengaluru-based comedian Sumukhi, who plays Anu Aunty in the video. “IIT, NIT, MIT, those three words make your mummy happy,” she says with a swagger which is enough to have one in splits. Rapper Brodha V retorts saying, “I am glad that Steve Jobs never had an aunt like you.”

Varun says that while making the video, the team felt that it had the potential to go viral, “We knew the video would work, but what made the whole thing worthwhile is that India went international with websites like 9GAG and Buzzfeed sharing it. If you can do something like that, which transcends cultures and languages then nothing can be more satisfying.”
