Unfortunately there are times when people have to give up their dogs. It could be for a number of reasons. When faced with such a situation, there are several ways of re-homing your dog. But one pet owner in Scotland chose to leave their Shar-Pei mix, Kai, tied to a railing at the Ayr Railway Station in South Ayrshire, according to The Telegraph. Next to Kai was a suitcase full of his stuff, including a pillow, food, bowl and toys.

Thanks to the dog’s microchip, the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was able to learn Kai’s name. The microchip led to Kai’s previous owners, who sold the dog on the Gumtree website back in 2013. They were unable to provide the SPCA with the new owner’s address.

"This case highlights the potential consequences of selling an animal online as it often leads to the impulse buying of pets that people know very little about. Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible. If anyone can help we would ask them to get in touch as soon as possible,”
SPCA stated on their website. They also took to Facebook and posted pictures of Kai to trace the owner.

Since the abandonment of an animal is in violation of the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act of 2006, the owner could face being banned from having an animal for either a fixed period of time or for life. Kai is currently being looked after by the SPCA until a forever home can be found. He has been described as around three years old with a loving nature.
