Crack found on EMU track
Gangmen spot crack between Kodambakkam-Mambalam
Chennai: A possible train accident was averted on Tuesday when the railway gang men found a crack over the railway track between the Kodambakkam–Mambalam railway stations.
The fracture on the track was found around 11 am, following which the trains plying via the Beach–Tambaram stretch were stopped. Engineering staff from St Thomas Mount and Kodambakkam railway stations were called in to rectify the problem and around 12.25 pm, the track was repaired temporarily.
The trains crossing the spot were regulated to move at a speed of 10 km per hour. Railway officials said the crack would be permanently repaired at night. “Repair works will be taken up during midnight and the crack will be completely covered,” said a railway official. However, the official also denied any hand of miscreants in damaging the track.
“During peak summer and winter, the tracks develop cracks as they expand and contract according to the weather. On Tuesday, the fog was higher than normal which could have led to the crack,” said the official.
