New Delhi: Urging Indians to respect the dignity of labour, HRD Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday said that she had once during her struggling das washed utensils at a hotel in Mumbai, 15 years ago.

She said this while addressing a press conference of state education minister in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Irani, who was a soap-opera queen before she landed in politics said that no one should feel inferior and judge others by their profession.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stress on ‘skill development’, she said that India is a country of aspirations.

"Our credit framework emphasises this that if you want to become a plumber, carpenter or a mechanic, there is no shame in this. Being a minister, I feel proud that nearly 15 years ago, I have washed utensils at a Mumbai hotel,” she said.
