GHMC is set to introduce dog-catching squads and animal care centres

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is set to introduce dog-catching squads and animal care centres in each of its 18 circles. According to a 2011 survey, Hyderabad is home to over 5 lakh street dogs and the GHMC currently has only 17 dog-catching vehicles.
Additionally, the GHMC is even planning to levy pet taxes. Such a system exists in Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata. Facing a massive rise in the dog population, the GHMC is deploying four teams to areas with high numbers.
