Vijayawada: Going a step ahead in using technology, Vijayawada traffic police started to use remote controllers to control traffic signals when needed. Though traffic signals are timed and run as per preset programmes, heavy traffic flow at peak hours force traffic policemen to stop the automatic signals and control traffic manually with hand sings.
This turned a bit tough to the cops at busiest junctions like Benz Circle, Ramesh Hospital junction and others on MG Road and Eluru Road every evening.
To overcome this problem, traffic police were making use of remote technology where the switch boards can be operated through a handy remote controller by any traffic police at the particular junction. This is currently being implemented at Benz Circle, one of the busiest junctions in city.
After observation for a week, the same will be implemented in other city junctions. The remote controller will help policemen not to rush to the switch board located at the junction to switch off automatic signals and use hand signs. With the remote, signals on all the sides of the junction can be operated depending on the traffic density.
